This week has been a pretty relaxed week for the most part. Over the weekend I stayed in Braunschweig and saw the local sights and sounds. On Saturday Kristina and I went downtown and watched the city’s annual pride parade. It was cool seeing so many people coming out and supporting the GLBT community. Of course there were all of the usual sights of this kind of parade—the couples, the odd ducks, and the just plain weird ones.
After the parade we walked back to Schloss (the palace-turned-mall) where we saw a group of bicycles with their owners… (Read On)

Sorry for the long delay between blog posts, this post will serve as a catch up for the past few weeks.
The first 3 weeks of class in Braunschweig were all focused on learning German. If you haven’t learned German before, it’s very interesting and, at times, a bit confusing. Three different genders (Masculine, Feminine, Neuter), splittable verbs (part of the verb goes at the end of the sentence), etc. We met for class from 8:30 - 1:30 each day and had three different teachers. Each teacher taught on different days (Monday/Friday, Tuesday, Wednesday/Thursday) and managed to get us through… (Read On)

My flight to Germany left from Omaha on Friday at 11 AM. I arrived in Dallas/Ft. Worth without a problem and waited for my flight to Frankfurt. Unfortunately, the flight was delayed by an hour due to the plane being pulled out of the hangar and then undergoing maintenance. Then it started pouring and they closed the ramp for a bit until the lightning passed. I wasn’t lucky this time as I didn’t score an upgrade to Business class, but the flight in Economy wasn’t horrible.
I sat next to a TCU student from Chile that was going to meet… (Read On)

Our last week of class was focused on the Rise of Asia. Our teacher lives in Hawaii, but also lives in China part of the year due to his wife’s Chinese heritage. The class discussed how various countries in Asia are developing and what impact they will have on the world as a whole in the future based on current conditions. Overall it was a good class, providing insight into where to focus marketing efforts and (in a round about way) tied the previous two courses (International HR and International Marketing) together.
The class was all lectures with our only… (Read On)

Just a note to tell everyone that I’ll be heading back to the States on Tuesday of next week. I’ll try and finish out the posts for the rest of the time I’m here.

Last week was a week of ups and downs, bugs and burns, class and…well you get the point. Our class this week was International Marketing, taught by Dr. Rene Mueller from Charleston, South Carolina. Dr. Mueller actually used the clicker system that I’ve only used in two other classes at UNO. We had a quiz on the first day of class over the readings she had assigned and asked us to have prepared for the first day. I think I actually did pretty good on the quiz, but apparently it was bad enough that she ended up throwing the quiz… (Read On)

This week was filled with late nights, early mornings, cold rain, and everything in between. But I’d say it was worth the troubles as I hope you’ll agree.
On Sunday Andrew, Tom, and I decided to go for a walk through west Innsbruck. This part of Innsbruck is over by the airport and is very hilly (which we soon found out). But a bit of background first.
Here’s how our wandering adventures work: we take a bus to a random place that we haven’t been to, find something shiny while riding… (Read On)

Sorry for the lengthy delay since the last post.
On Monday we had a break due to a national holiday and therefore didn’t have classes, nor were the shops open. That night I was invited by Haje (pronounced “hiyo”, from France), Franco (from Argentina), and Pierre (from France) to go to the Baggersee public lake. Unfortunately, the lake would have cost several Euro to get into if we went in before 6 PM. We ended up watching a mini golf tournament at the putt putt next to the lake for a while… (Read On)

Yesterday and today were pretty much dedicated to exploring the area. Andrew, Tom, Kristina, and I explored eastern Innsbruck for a while on Sunday after lunch at a local cafe.
//Begin funny story
So, not thinking, I ordered Kase brot. My non-German thinking head was thinking “braut” not “brot” (bread). No, I ordered cheese and bread with pepper on top. Surprisingly, six pieces of cheese on top of bread was delicious and filling. But it was a very entertaining note to self. My friend, Andrew, ordered Shinkenbrot, which turned out to be ham and bread. We swapped a piece… (Read On)

Yesterday and today were a bit more relaxing compared to previous days. Yesterday, we finally went into the city around 12:30 and had some pizza at Mama Mia’s. My pizza had shrimp and cabbage on it, but was surprisingly very good. After our pizza, we did “the tourist” thing and walked around in the old city. We went through Dom St. Jakobs, one of the bigger catholic churches in Innsbruck. After that, we met up with Veronika and Caleb as Caleb flew out this morning.
We walked through the tourist-y districts some… (Read On)

Day one of our trip to Austria was fun. Tom and I had to go down to the city center to register our “Meldezettel” (city registration) at 8 AM. After missing our student tutor (Klaus) by the bus stop, we finally caught up with him at 8:20. The registration itself took 5 minutes a piece. Registration basically informs them that we are in the city. If we don’t register and we do something stupid that requires the police, we risk a lovely fine.
After registration, we went back to the dorms and I showed Tom the grocery that’s conveniently located… (Read On)

This is a quick message to let everyone know I made it to Austria without a problem. I didn’t bother sleeping Monday night, instead opting to have Nick (thanks a ton, Nick. I owe you something shiny.) drive me to the airport on a lack of sleep. I figured this would help me sleep on the evening flight to fight jet lag.
All flights went smooth and I even got upgraded to Business on my overseas flight. Talk about swanky. I’m used to Economy with its tight quarters and complimentary soda. Nope. Business class was amazing, with extra room to… (Read On)

Nothing like packing for a 3 month trip. Based on the information Ben sent me, I re-packed and was able to get the following in my suitcase:
- 7 T-shirts
- 1 sweatshirt
- 1 dress shirt
- 1 pair of khaki pants
- 1 pair of khaki shorts
- 1 pair of jeans
- 7 pairs of underwear / socks
And I still have room for more if need be. Of course, I still need to pack my toiletries in 3-1-1 compliance (no more than 3 ounces of a liquid, all liquids in a 1 quart bag,… (Read On)
